Workplace Wizards Turns 10

This past weekend, we marked a truly special milestone; 10 years of Workplace Wizards. And what a journey it’s been! 

What started as a bold idea over a decade ago—one fuelled by frustration but built on possibility—has now grown into something bigger than we ever imagined. Back then, Mark and Susanna Ritchie knew there had to be a better way to do workplace relations and HR consulting. The industry was weighed down by formality, rigid processes, and expensive, impersonal advice. They believed businesses deserved better, and so, Workplace Wizards was born. 

Fast forward ten years, and we found ourselves surrounded by an incredible group of people, raising a glass to the journey so far. The room was filled with laughter, shared memories, and plenty of moments that reminded us just how far we’ve come. From the early days of navigating uncharted waters to becoming an award-winning firm recognised by our clients as the Best HR Consulting Firm (less than $30m revenue) in both 2022 and 2023, it’s been a ride we wouldn’t trade for anything. 

But more than the accolades, it’s the people who have made this journey so special.  

The clients who have trusted us, the team members who have given their passion and expertise, and the relationships we’ve built along the way—these are the real markers of success. Workplace Wizards has always been about people first, and this weekend was a perfect reflection of that. No stiff corporate formalities, just a room full of friends, colleagues, and partners who’ve all been part of this story. 

The celebration itself was nothing short of spectacular, a nautical formal affair that was equal parts stylish and full of heart. From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere was warm, inclusive, and brimming with excitement. There were heartfelt speeches, plenty of laughter, and lots of reminiscing about the wild ride that brought us to this moment. And of course, no Workplace Wizards event would be complete without a dance floor that got well and truly put to use! 

One guest summed up the night perfectly: “I walked in not knowing many people, but within minutes, I felt completely welcomed.” 

That comment couldn’t have captured our ethos better. Workplace Wizards has never just been about business; it’s about people. Whether it’s our clients, our team, or those we meet along the way, we’ve always strived to create a culture that’s approachable, supportive, and, most importantly, human. 

Reflecting on the celebration, Wizards’ Director, Susanna Ritchie, had some thoughts:

Celebrating our 10 year anniversary at St Kilda’s Life Saving Club felt like a full circle for our Managing Director Mark and me. We celebrated our engagement there almost 14 years ago and now to celebrate this milestone with our expanded tribe (now including our national team and clients) was really special!

Mark started Workplace Wizards with purpose, a laptop and a mobile phone in our spare bedroom. Now, 10 years in, Workplace Wizards has grown into a prized, highly respected firm that is in high demand. We have helped hundreds of clients solve organisational problems and achieved positive change in countless Australian workplaces. Mark’s vision, drive and good humour has been exceptional.

Led by Mark and the inspiring Sonia Lindsay, our consulting team has built an incredible community of like-minded, strategic, values-aligned and high performing clients. We are so proud of our advisors’ expertise, skill, experience, agility, and care for each other and our clients. We love bouncing ideas and solutions off each other, and working together.

And our incredible support team, led by our amazing Operations Manager Sandy Burriss, are always by our side, sleeves rolled up and ready to help, lifting us to deliver exceptional client service and positive impact throughout our community. We couldn’t do what we do so well without them all. Thank you to our team from the bottom of our hearts.

Noting what a privilege it is to do what we do – helping leaders and workplaces when they are most uncertain, most in need or stretched, we thank you all (also from the bottom of our hearts) for entrusting us with your problems, letting us share your load and welcoming us into your workplaces.

We also plan to continue to give back to our community. Last year Workplace Wizards dedicated the equivalent of over 10% of our revenue to pro bono work for not-for-profit organisations and individuals. This is addition to the discounted rates we charge not-for-profit clients.

Looking Ahead

The landscape of employment law and HR keeps growing and changing, and so do we. We’re more committed than ever to breaking down barriers, keeping things simple and accessible, and, above all, making a real difference in workplaces across Australia. 

So, to everyone who has been part of our journey, thank you. For your trust, your belief in what we do, and for making Workplace Wizards what it is today. Here’s to the past ten years, and to the next ten—whatever they may bring!
